JALISCO, Mexico – Yesterday, there was an explosion at the Jose Cuervo factory in the city of Tequila. At least six people died after the explosion. Local authorities are still investigation the cause of the explosion.
The state of Jalisco, is the largest producer of agave in Mexico. The town of Tequila is a global tourist destination as people from all over the world flock there to taste Mexican tequila soon after it is produced.
A separate fire broke out in the factory early this morning. Authorities are investigating the cause of this fire which happened so soon after the explosion.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Cartel de Jalisco Neuva Generacion, is the prominent crime syndicate in Jalisco. Nueva Generacion is know for violence and carrying out very public acts of retribution against people and companies that “don’t fall in-line” with their requests. The Cartel is involved in drug trafficking, primarily amphetamine and cocaine. They have also been known to “cannibalize” their victims.
