In Norway, three activists climbed the fence surrounding Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport only to be removed by authorities.
Climate activists gathered in Germany to show their support for an end to global dependence upon fossil fuels by gluing themselves to structures and tarmacs at the airports in Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne / Bonn, euronews reports. The protests, which began on Saturday have continued until today.
Flights were temporarily stopped in Frankfurt yesterday as airport and emergency crews worked to dislodge the activists from boiling concrete. Protesters are demonstrating at airports around Europe this week under the campaign ‘Oil Kills’.
They say that they are “demanding our criminal governments phase out oil, gas and coal by 2030 by signing a binding international treaty”.
In The Netherlands, one person suffered a broken elbow allegedly caused by police at the Hague. Prior to the incident, police reportedly warned that violence may be used against the demnostrators.
