SANTA MONICA – One can imagine the alarms that went off inside the office of Japan’s Self Defense Forces when a Chinese reconnaissance aircraft breached Japan’s airspace Monday morning.
“Is this the beginning of the Chinese invasion?” people probably questioned. “Are the Chinese, planning a three-front attack on Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines?” people must have wondered.
Japan’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the Chinese military aircraft occupied Japanese airspace for approximately two minutes but continued to circle the area for two hours before returning to mainland China. NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, said that Ministry officials would remain on alert and continue to monitor Japan’s airspace.
The United States and the Royal Australian Air Force are upgrading Aussie military facilities in case of a military conflict with China.
The Washington Post recently reported that RAAF Tindal, is being upgraded amid growing fears of another global conflict. The military bases in Australia would serve as a launchpads for Allied Forces operating in the Pacific.
“This is about deterrence,” said Richard Marles, Australia’s defense minister. “We’re working together to deter future conflict.”
The Taiwanese army recently drilled with anti-amphibious landing missiles in case of a potential attack from China. China claims that Taiwan is a Chinese territory while the Taiwanese sees themselves as an independent nation.
