Tensions escalated over the weekend after Ecuador traded some of the old and antiquated Russian military equipment for newer American military gear.
The Russian gear was extremely old and the Ecuadorians wanted new equipment. The total value of the trade was worth an estimated U$D 200 million, according to the AP. After Russia found out about the deal, they claimed that banana shipments from Ecuador were diseased and subsequently banned the importation of bananas.
Ecuador, is the world’s largest supplier and exporter of bananas. In 2022, Ecuador has exportation sales approximating U$D3.5 billion. Read more from the AP here.
